The spiny lobster is a type of sea creature in the Animal Crossing series, introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

While initially absent from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the spiny lobster was added in the 1.3.0 Free Summer Update, where it appears from 9 PM to 4 AM as a large, fast shadow from mid fall to early winter. It, the firefly squid, and the horseshoe crab are the only three sea creatures in the game to appear during the 9 PM to 4 AM timeframe.

Donating to the museum[edit]

In New Leaf[edit]

After donating the spiny lobster to the museum, the player can see it in the huge tank in the first room. The aquarium gives this description.

"The representative species for all large lobsters, they've become a lasting symbol of longevity. They live between rocks in shallow waters with octopuses as their natural enemies. Only octopuses are capable of reaching in between the rocks with their long arms to catch them."

In New Horizons[edit]

"It is the spiny lobster's lengthy antennae that help set it apart from other lobsters. Those two antennae can grow twice as long as the lobster's own body! And what a clever crustacean it is, having found a way to use those antennae as a means of defense. When the spiny lobster senses danger, it rubs its antennae across its exoskeleton. The horrid screeching sound frightens predators away! If someone scratched nails across a chalkboard in your direction, I daresay you'd run too!"

Fishing Tourney[edit]

In New Leaf[edit]

During a Fishing Tourney, when given a spiny lobster, Chip will not score the sea creature but will say the following:

"Spiny lobsters are usually best boiled or grilled. Oh yes! Either way you're set! Delicious! That said, swallowing them whole works perfectly fine too! YUM!"
