C.J. is a special character who debuted in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. He runs the Fishing Tourney, and appears to have a similar role to Chip from previous games. He is shown to have a background in streaming and internet presence, as he will 'challenge' the player to catch three fish of a certain size, claiming it's to 'keep the fans happy'. After the player completes this challenge, C.J. will purchase any fish the player offers him.

Trivia

  • C.J. mentions having a partner who is an artist that specializes in models of bugs, a detail suggesting it could be Flick. Additional dialogue reveals that C.J. and Flick live together, considering they moved out of their childhood homes around the same time.
  • C.J.'s name may stand for "Chip Junior," which would put him in a similar position to Daisy Mae of being related to the character he replaces.
  • When visiting the player's town Chip mentions his "old man" showed him the ropes of fishing but never was able to do it. This further suggests that Chip and C.J. could be related.
