The gar (ガー, Gā) is a freshwater fish in the Animal Crossing series introduced in Animal Crossing: Wild World. In games prior to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it appears in the river pool as a huge shadow; in New Horizons, it instead appears in ponds as a very large shadow. In all games it appears in, the gar is available from 4 PM - 9 AM from summer to early fall.

Donating to the museum[edit]
When placed in the museum, the gar shares a tank with the arapaima, the middle tank in Animal Crossing: Wild World and the middle-right tank in Animal Crossing: City Folk. Until Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Blathers makes a small speech about the donated gar.

When donating to Blathers or selecting "Tell me about this!" in New Horizons, he will provide the following information about the fish:
Once donated to the museum, the gar can be found in the recessed fish tank in the first fish exhibit with the Pike.
Real-world information[edit]
This fish can be caught up to about 4 meters (12 ft) in length. Its scales are diamond-shaped and are sometimes used for jewelry. It appears in North America, particularly the United States.
