Chip (うおまさ, Uomasa) is the beaver that chairs the fishing tourneys held every Sunday in June and November. Chip sets up tent early in the mornings (at 6:00 AM sharp) and waits for players and villagers to bring him different types of bass (small bass, bass, and large bass) to measure at the weigh-in station. Chip will measure it by chewing it up inch by inch. Every time you bring Chip a fish that breaks the current tourney record for the day he will give you an item as a prize. Thus, to maximize the number of items you can receive from Chip, be sure to give him the smallest fish first. You do not receive prizes for fish that do not beat the record. If you hold the biggest fish record by 6pm Chip will send you an additional reward in the mail. Chip will always post the winner of each tourney to the bulletin board.

In Wild World, Tortimer assumed the role as judge of the fishing tourneys, thus Chip did not appear in that installment. However, he returns in Animal Crossing: City Folk.

His job

Chip runs the fishing tourney, and he sets up a little blue and white tent. He will ask you to catch a specific type of fish or the biggest fish, depending on which tourney you are in. You can also see his picture in the tent posing with a koi carp. If you give him a fish that isn't the largest, he doesn't give it back to you. Instead, he eats it. For winning you will receive a letter from Chip with a gleaming gold or silver trophy. To get the silver trophy, you must win the fishing tourney for a specific kind of fish. To win a gold trophy, you must win the fishing tourney for all types of fish.
