Money rocks Conjectural, or Bell rocks, are rocks that produce Bells when hit with a shovel or an axe. Every day, one of the rocks in the player's town will turn into a money rock and can be hit repeatedly for increasing amounts of money. The allotted time window for a hit to produce money decreases after each hit. After all the money has been collected, the money rock will go back to being a normal rock. In all games, every bag spouted after the fourth consecutive bag/coin will play the '1-Up' sound from the Mario series.

The money rock Conjectural is a rock that produces Bells when hit with a shovel or axe. Each day a single rock in the player's town becomes a money rock and can be hit repeatedly to produce increasing amounts of Bells.

The amount of money the rock gives varies from game to game and depends on how fast it is hit, the level of yellow Feng Shui, and, in CF, what it is hit with. Any obstacle adjacent to the money rock will also prevent bags from spawning there. For towns with more than one player, each player gets the money rock from separate random rocks.
+
Once a money rock has been hit once, a timer starts; once it expires, the rock stops producing Bells. The rock can be hit a maximum of eight times, leaving one bag of Bells on each adjacent tile. If a tile is already occupied, the Bell bag for that tile will not appear. Because the player is pushed back from the rock after each hit, digging holes behind them or otherwise preventing the pushback is required to hit the rock the maximum number of times within the time limit.

Beginning with the fifth hit, the 1-Up sound effect from the Super Mario series plays after each hit.

In the first-generation games
In PG, the rock will spurt out up to 23,300 Bells as three sacks of 100, three sacks of 1,000, and two sacks of 10,000. Having high levels of any (not just yellow) feng shui will increase the chance of more money spouting from the rock. Also, the money rock glows red when hit and gradually fades to gray, giving a visual timer as it will continue to spout money for as long as the rock is red. In later versions the rock simply remains gray.
+
In every first-generation Animal Crossing game, the money rock turns red when hit the first time before fading back to gray, indicating how much time is left to hit it. The values of Bells produced by the rock is increased with good money luck from Katrina, and the time limit increases if the player has money power through fêng shui. Having money power through fêng shui is required to have enough time for the eighth Bell bag to appear.

Having a good money fortune from Katrina will dramatically increase the amount of money received from the money rock.

The amount of money that can be collected from money rocks in a year is 4,867,800 Bells (4,867,800 in a leap year).

In CF, the amount of money that comes out is different from past titles. The order goes: 100, 200, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and finally 4,000. If the player uses a silver shovel (golden shovels do not work), one or more of the money bags may be worth double, with a signature noise and sparkle. This has a 10% chance of happening for each hit. It has been proven that high yellow feng shui (over 73 yellow feng shui count) means that an 8,000 Bells bag will appear if the rock is hit fast enough.
+
In CF, hitting a money rock with a silver shovel gives a 10% chance each hit of the Bell bag produced being double its normal value. Additionally, having money power through fêng shui increases the time limit, and it is required to have enough time for the eighth Bell bag to appear.

The maximum amount of money that can be collected from money rocks in a year is 8,796,500 (8,820,600 in a leap year) while the minimum is 2,956,500 (2,964,600 in a leap year).

In NL, if the money rock is struck with an ordinary shovel, players can receive up to 16,100 Bells (this time, feng shui is not a requirement for the 8th money bag), with almost no chance of receiving ore. The order pattern goes with either 100, 200, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, and 8,000 Bells in that order or 100, 200, 300, 500, 500, 1,000, 2,000, and 4,000 Bells, with the 500 Bells appearing twice, therefore reducing the total to only 8,400 Bells. With good money luck, however, players can receive up to 32,000 Bells and there is a rare chance of a bunch of ore appearing instead of the daily money. Ore is sold for a minimum of 2,000 Bells each in Re-Tail.
+
In NL, fêng shui no longer affects the timer, and as a result the eighth Bell bag can be received by default. Having bad money luck from Katrina decreases the values of Bells, while having good money luck increases them.

In NH, if the money rock is struck with a shovel, and the player has not eaten any fruit, up to 16,100 Bells can be received. Fêng shui is not required for the eighth Bell bag to appear. The order is 100, 200, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, and 8,000 Bells.
+
In NH, in addition to on the player's island, several money rocks appear on the money rock and scorpion islands on Mystery Island Tours. Beginning in version 2.0, Katrina's money luck affects money rocks, with good luck increasing the values of Bells, and bad luck preventing money rocks from appearing at all.

Kickback
After every hit against the rock, the player will rebound, causing the player to lose time and making it impossible to collect all of the potential money sacks. To prevent this, players can dig holes behind themselves to create a wall to prevent getting knocked back too far. Examples are shown below.

Natural features, such as trees and cliffs, or placed furniture items in short, can also be used to prevent kickback, taking place of one or more holes.

It should be noted that in short and short, the left formation in the ones shown above will prevent the 8th money bag from appearing, therefore halving the amount that the player receives from money rocks. In other games, this is less of an issue, since the 8th bag only appears if the player has excellent yellow feng shui.

The player hitting a money rock in City Folk

The money rock (conjectural name[nb 1]) is a rock that produces Bells when hit with a shovel or axe. Each day a single rock in the player's town becomes a money rock and can be hit repeatedly to produce increasing amounts of Bells.

If more than one player is living in a town, which rock is the money rock on a given day differs for each player.

Appearances

In the first-generation games

In every first-generation Animal Crossing game, the money rock turns red when hit the first time before fading back to gray, indicating how much time is left to hit it. The values of Bells produced by the rock is increased with good money luck from Katrina, and the time limit increases if the player has money power through fêng shui. Having money power through fêng shui is required to have enough time for the eighth Bell bag to appear.

The Bell values produced by the money rock are as follows (italics indicates the increased timer caused by fêng shui is required):

 • No money luck:
 • 100 → 100 → 100 → 1,000 → 1,000 → 1,000 → 10,000 → 10,000 — total of 13,300 / 23,300 Bells
 • With money luck:
 • 1,000 → 1,000 → 1,000 → 10,000 → 10,000 → 10,000 → 30,000 → 30,000 — total of 63,000 / 93,000 Bells

In Wild World

The player hitting a money rock in Wild World

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, having money power through fêng shui increases the time limit, and it is required to have enough time for the eighth Bell bag to appear.

The Bell values produced by the money rock are as follows (italics indicates the increased timer caused by fêng shui is required):

 • 100 → 200 → 400 → 800 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 — total of 8,500 / 16,500 Bells

In City Folk

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, hitting a money rock with a silver shovel gives a 10% chance each hit of the Bell bag produced being double its normal value. Additionally, having money power through fêng shui increases the time limit, and it is required to have enough time for the eighth Bell bag to appear.

The Bell values produced by the money rock are as follows (italics indicates the increased timer caused by fêng shui is required):

 • 100 → 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 — total of 8,100 / 16,100 Bells

In New Leaf

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, fêng shui no longer affects the timer, and as a result the eighth Bell bag can be received by default. Having bad money luck from Katrina decreases the values of Bells, while having good money luck increases them.

The Bell values produced by the money rock are as follows:

 • Bad money luck:
 • 100 → 100 → 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 4,000 — total of 6,200 Bells
 • No money luck:
 • 100 → 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 — total of 16,100 Bells
 • Good money luck:
 • 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 → 16,000 — total of 32,000 Bells

If a money rock is hit with a silver shovel, there is a 20% chance that the rock will produce ore instead of Bells.

In New Horizons

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, in addition to on the player's island, several money rocks appear on the money rock and scorpion islands on Mystery Island Tours. Beginning in version 2.0, Katrina's money luck affects money rocks, with good luck increasing the values of Bells, and bad luck preventing money rocks from appearing at all.

The Bell values produced by the money rock are as follows:

 • No money luck:
 • 100 → 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 — total of 16,100 Bells
 • Good money luck:
 • 200 → 300 → 500 → 1,000 → 2,000 → 4,000 → 8,000 → 16,000 — total of 32,000 Bells

If the player has energy points from food and breaks a money rock before its Bells have been dispensed, 8,000 Bells, or 16,000 Bells with good money luck, appear.
