The savings account is a feature in the Animal Crossing series that allows the player to deposit or withdraw their Bells. It is accessed either from Pelly or Phyllis at the post office or town hall, or from an ATM-like machine known as the Automatic Bell Dispenser (ABD)[nb 1] Beginning in Animal Crossing: Wild World, the player receives monthly interest from the Bells saved in their account. In all games, the maximum amount of Bells that can be held in the savings account is 999,999,999.
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the player's savings account is at the Bank of Nintendo, and in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it is at the Bank of Nook.
Appearances
In Animal Crossing
In Animal Crossing, the savings account can be accessed by speaking to Pelly or Phyllis at the post office only after the player's house has been fully paid off.
In Wild World
In Animal Crossing: Wild World, the savings account can be accessed by speaking to Pelly or Phyllis at town hall. The player receives 0.5% interest on the first of each month, with a maximum of 99,999 Bells.
In City Folk
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the savings account can be accessed from the ABD at town hall. The player's Bells are stored in the Bank of Nintendo. It can also be accessed at the player's house from the ABD furniture item. The player receives 0.5% interest on the first of each month, with a maximum of 99,999 Bells.
After the player deposits 10,000 Bells into their savings account, the Bank of Nintendo sends them a shopping card, which can be used at GracieGrace and the auction house to spend the Bells in their savings without having to carry them in their pockets. If the player loses their shopping card, a new one can be issued at the ABD. After saving 1,000,000 Bells, the player receives the gold card, which gives a 20% discount when used at GracieGrace; unlike the shopping card, it cannot be reissued.
In New Leaf
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the savings account can be accessed from the ABD at the post office or on Tortimer Island. The player receives 0.5% interest on the first of each month, with a maximum of 99,999 Bells.
When selling a town in the Welcome amiibo update, any Bells in the player's savings account are transferred to the new town.
In New Horizons
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the savings account can be accessed from the Nook Stop at Resident Services. The player's Bells are stored in the Bank of Nook. The player receives 0.05% interest on the first of each month, with a maximum of 9,999 Bells. Prior to version 1.2.0, the player would receive 0.5% interest on the first of each month, with a maximum of 99,999 Bells; after downloading the 1.2.0 update, the Bank of Nook would send the player a Bell-bag rug as an apology for the decreased interest rates.
Unlike previous games, there are no rewards for passing certain Bell milestones.
With the release of the 2.0 update, it is now possible to redeem a separate ABD from the Nook Stop. Once redeemed, the player can set it up anywhere and can now access the ABD without having to go to the Nook Stop first. An ABD is also available at Harv's Island. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise, after the player has done around 25 vacation homes, Lottie will set up an Automated Bell and Poki Dispenser (AB&PD), to allow the player to deposit Poki and do exchanges between Bells and Poki. There is a limit of 30,000 Bells and 15,000 Poki that can be exchanged at a time, and the exchange rates change every day.
Rewards
After depositing a certain amount of Bells into the savings account, the player will receive a letter in the mail with a present attached as a reward. Items obtained this way cannot be re-ordered from the catalog.
