The following is a list of special character IDs.
Similarly to villagers, special characters in the series are each given a unique three letter ID based on their species or role, used by the game to identify their models and other related assets. However, these IDs sometimes change between games, and furthermore have variants depending on appearance. This page contains a table using the characters' "default" or "normal" IDs in each game, with variants documented as a list below.
Table[edit]
Designations in New Leaf are the same in Happy Home Designer and Pocket Camp unless otherwise specified in the below section, so for simplicity one column is used.

Characters with multiple IDs[edit]
Some characters have multiple IDs for variations either in appearance/clothing or a different but closely related character (e.g. Gulliver and Gullivarr). In all games prior to New Horizons, this is usually signified by changing the last letter of the ID. In New Horizons, the IDs are instead suffixed with A or B. (Some characters like Cornimer and DJ KK who were formerly had separate IDs now follow this pattern as well.)
In New Leaf and Happy Home Designer there is also another model using the same three letter code as the normal one suffixed with _h, for when the character is at their home or their RV. The exceptions are is Timmy/Tommy and Resetti, see below.
In New Horizons, most characters always use the same model and clothes are applied separately, so their default internal name is the only one ever used.

Additional notes[edit]
Leftover IDs[edit]
- Cornimer has Town Tune sound data under
in City Folk, probably carried over from Wild World.dnk
- Kaitlin's Town Tune sound data in City Folk is misspelled as
instead ofmun
.mum
- In City Folk, Tortimer and the Resettis apparently have sound data for their alternate costumes. A duplicate of Tom Nook's sound data is also given the ID
for "dummy."dmy
- Models for Frillard and Tom Nook's apron outfit are present in New Leaf's files, but are duplicates of Isabelle's. These were removed in Welcome amiibo.
- Giovanni, Carlo, and Beppe's IDs all have Town Tune sound data in Welcome amiibo despite not appearing until Pocket Camp. Giovanni also has a dummy duplicate model of Isabelle.
Other notes[edit]
- Some references to player characters and models in Animal Crossing use the IDs
andboy
.grl
- The unused NPC Shaki also has an ID,
. This likely stands for "extra squirrel" similar to Rover's IDxsq
for "extra cat."xct
- Unused human characters found in development files have the model names
,oba
, andhei
. They are a red-haired woman and two soldiers, respectively.he2
- The three models for Somebody in Happy Home Designer use the names
,puppet00
andpuppet01
.puppet02
- Jingle's touchscreen icon in Happy Home Designer is misspelled as
instead ofstn
.snt
- The filename for Timmy and Tommy's Photo uses only
, Timmy's ID.rcm

Notes[edit]
- ↑ After City Folk, Lloid is treated as an object rather than a special character and as such is not given an ID.
- ↑ Probably a mistake.
- ↑ In New Leaf, Shrunk's Jacket is applied separately to his model.
- ↑ This is different than how rci is his default ID in New Leaf and Happy Home Designer, but rco is the default in New Horizons.
