Sable maintains the same role as in future releases of the game. She can be seen sewing in the corner, keeping quiet and secluded. If the player keeps talking to her she will start becoming their friend and sharing memories to them about her childhood. Sable also has a younger sister Mabel, who helps run the shop.

In WW, Sable has a very similar role as she did in Animal Crossing. She is never seen walking around the shop, because she is always using her sewing machine. She does not say much unless the player becomes friends with her, but this takes some time to do. Talking to her everyday increases the chances of her revealing information about herself. At first she will say things like "Ummm... who are you?!", but when she is friends with the player she will begin to say things like "Welcome! I'm so glad you decided to pay us a visit..." She watches a soap opera called Pointed Love, which she will comment on every Thursday. Sable is affected by episodes every so often, but this only happens if the player befriends her.

In January, Sable will get depressed, much to Mabel's bewilderment. Eventually, after talking to Sable enough during the month, she reveals a huge secret, she and Tom Nook were best friends before he moved to the city. Although the very beginning is missing, the part about Tom Nook is complete:

"Well, the first letter I got from him arrived at just around this time of year... The other day, before bed, I pulled that letter out... and just looked at it. Tee hee! It was adorable! Sure, the handwriting was a little messy, but... You could hear his determination in every word of that letter... Sweet, young Tom Nook... His call to arms, his ethos, was "Dreams before money!" He was so pure that people wondered if he'd survive this crazy old world. I did too. Every night before falling asleep, I would wish him...

'Please keep Tom Nook's pure spirit protected," I'd whisper in the darkness. "Keep him safe from the apathy that breeds in the alleys of the big city...'"

I don't know why I've told you so much about Tom Nook and I... All those memories of our shared youth must bore you. Please forgive me. [Tell Me More!] ...Ohh, OK, if you insist!

The Tom Nook that left for the big city... He sent me letters quite frequently, actually. One day, I received a wooden box, not a letter. When I opened it, I was quite astonished!

[A ring?!] Oh goodness, no! Are you kidding?! NAME, I think you've been watching too many made-for-TV movies! ...Ohh, I'm so sorry. Heh, I didn't mean to snap. That just took me off guard.

No, inside the box, there was a pair of fancy, burnt-orange colored... Scissors. Incredibly strong and sharp scissors! The finest scissors I'd ever laid eyes on. The enclosed letter said, "Happy birthday, Sable!" So...sweet... At the time, I was so busy that I'd even forgotten it was my birthday. To think Tom Nook had remembered it... I'm sure life was hard for Tom Nook in the city during that time... I know his job paid poorly, so for him to buy those scissors for me... When I think about it, it makes me so happy that I cry!

Oh really, NAME... You want to hear my memories again? I'm warning you, not all my memories are fond ones you know... [Really?]

In WW, Sable has a very similar role as she did in Animal Crossing, keeping secluded at a sewing machine without moving. Once again, she will ask the player to leave her be at first, before becoming a friend of the player continuously talks to her each day. She will also now begin to say things like "Welcome! Well, we shared a lot of good times, Tom Nook and I. Before there was an observatory in dear old TOWN NAME... We used to climb up the roof when we wanted to look at the stars... Ohh, yes! We even made constellations together, I remember! I made one called the "Star Shirt." Tom Nook's looked like one of those old-time markets. He called it... "The Farmer's Market Bargain Bin Constellation." Ohh that takes me back...

After talking to Sable enough during the month, Sable will reveal that she and Tom Nook were best friends before Nook moved to the city. Although prior to moving to the city, Sable and Tom Nook would climb onto the roof of the Observatory (though she implies that it was a seperate building at this time, rather than part of the Museum) and gaze at the stars, eventually inspiring Sable to design a "Star Shirt" constellation. Sable will speak of her and Nook writing to each other after Tom Nook's move, even appearing to have an admiration for him, as she would wish to "keep Tom Nook's pure spirit protected" from the apathetic attitude of the city, and even receiving a pair of scissors from him on her birthday. While talking, she will act apologetic about her monologing to the player, though she will reminisce about what she says often.

[Nice story] Yes, it is... Shortly after that, Tom Nook moved to the big city... Yes, he left to chase his dreams... When he returned to TOWN NAME, he came back a totally different soul... I still believe that... if he had just clung to those sweet memories like I do... he would have shaken off the heartsickness of those city years... Memories can be sad, but they can also save you..."}}

In City Folk, Sable's role remains unchanged. After the player speaks with Sable every day for six days, she will eventually stop ignoring him or her, but will make comments about the day of the week and sometimes tell him or her stories about her past life and childhood. During the episode she reveals a family secret, stating that the worker in GracieGrace is indeed her younger sister, Labelle. Sable does not get along with her sister, as she feels that Labelle abandoned her to go to the city when their parents died, leaving her alone to look after Mabel. There is also a glitch that allowed a player to be stuck behind Sable during online play.

Sable (あさみ, Asami) is a character in the Animal Crossing series, co-owning the Able Sisters tailor shop. She is a shy, reserved character that prefers to work in the background while her younger sister, Mabel, assists customers. Her Japanese name is derived from asa, meaning hemp or linen. It may also relate to hasami, scissors.

Physical Appearance

Sable is a brown hedgehog with pink freckles and sad, shy eyes. She has no visible mouth, so instead talks by moving her nose. She wears a pink and white gingham apron and has a head full of large, spiky bristles.

Background

Sable's life is very focused around the world she grew up in- she is happy with the slow pace of the country life and has proven to be firm friends with others from the village, most notably, Tom Nook. When Sable was only a young girl, her parents died, leaving her to care for her younger sister. She reminisces frequently of her parents, often sharing stories of her childhood. It is not known how her mother and father died, but it is certain that Sable was very unprepared, having to mature quickly and sacrifice her own happiness for that of her sister. This lowered her self-confidence and made her the introverted adult she is today. After her parents' death, Sable took over the family business and taught herself to embroider and make clothes.

Sable, though absent in the original Doubutsu no Mori, is added to its enhanced port, Animal Crossing with her younger sister Mabel. While her sister runs the shop, Sable can be seen sewing in the corner, keeping quiet and secluded. If the player talks to her, she will politely ask the player to leave her be, or frustratingly ask Mabel to help her with the "customer". However, if the keeps talking to her consecutively over the course of two weeks, she will warm up to the player and become their friend. When these conditions are met, Sable will share memories to the player about her childhood.

Animal Crossing: Wild World

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, Sable has a very similar role as she did in Animal Crossing, keeping secluded at a sewing machine without moving. Once again, she will ask the player to leave her be at first, before becoming a friend of the player continuously talks to her each day. She will also now begin to say things like "Welcome! I'm so glad you decided to pay us a visit..." Sable also reveals to be a fan of a soap opera called Pointed Love, which she will comment on every Thursday. Sable is affected by episodes every so often, but this only happens if the player befriends her.

If the player befriends her prior to January, Sable will get depressed, much to Mabel's bewilderment. In City Folk, Sable's role remains unchanged, though the player is able now speak to Sable for twelve days to befriend her, as opposed to two weeks in other installments. As in Wild World, Sable will make comments about the day of the week and sometimes tell him or her stories about her past life and childhood. During an episode, Sable will reveal that a worker in GracieGrace, named Labelle, is her younger sister. Sable d mentions that she does not get along with her sister, as she feels that Labelle abandoned her to go to the city when their parents died, leaving her alone to look after Mabel. A glitch also allows a player to be stuck behind Sable during online play.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

In New Leaf, Sable is given a more extensive role, but she is still a seamstress working at the Able Sisters, now located on Main Street. This time, when the player befriends her, she will allow the player to access the QR Code machine, allowing them to store designs within QR Codes.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

Sable reappears in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, running the Able Sisters To Go shop with her younger sister Mabel. Sable continues to work as a seamstress in this game. However, the player is unable to talk to her and thus is unable to befriend her.

Other Appearances
