Groucho is a cranky, bear villager in the Animal Crossing series, first appearing in Animal Crossing. He was absent in Animal Crossing: Wild World, but returned to the Animal Crossing series in Animal Crossing: City Folk. His name may come from the word "grouchy", another word used for someone who is "cranky". In real life, a famous Groucho was the middle brother of five, who went on to form The Marx Brothers; another of the brothers' names appears in the Animal Crossing series, named Chico the mouse.
Characteristics
Appearance
Groucho is a dark, navy blue bear with an angry expression upon his face. He also has some scars just above his eyes, which may also be considered light orange strips of hair. He initially wears the windsock shirt. This changes in Animal Crossing: City Folk and onwards, where he instead wears the lite polka shirt initially.
Personality

As a cranky villager, Groucho will appear mature compared to other male personality types. This will make him appear serious as well as rude when talking to other villagers, including the player. Despite this, he will learn to confide in the player, considering them his only friend. He will enjoy the usual hobbies - not for competition, but for relaxing and peaceful reasons of calm and tranquility. He will find it difficult to socialize with peppy villagers, who he will appear to dislike, and mention this behind their backs, often planting rumors. He will get along with normal, snooty and jock villagers, as well as other cranky villagers, who he will share deeper conversations with. He will, on occasion, annoy a normal villager, usually when criticizing something or someone. When he is sick, he will insult the illness.

His house hasn't changed much through the series, barring some furniture moved around. In Animal Crossing, he listens to K.K. Rock.
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, he now listens to K.K. Metal in his house. He starts out with the Modern Series. His house is quite empty. There are two golf bags all lined up, a Baby Bear, a gold stereo, the Modern Bed, Modern Desk and the Modern Sofa. The wall is the Shanty Wall and the carpet is Old Board Flooring.
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, his house hasn't changed much, and his favorite song is still K.K. Metal.
