Autumn in Animal Crossing series starts on the 1st of September and ends on the 30th of November. During autumn, the trees begin to change color to an orange-brown and the grass frequently change color and turns dull. Insects and rarer fish start to disappear, being replaced with cheaper fish and insects such as the Pike and Monarch butterfly, making autumn one of the more quiet seasons in the series, rivaled by winter.
Events
Below is a list of events found in autumn. It contains what happens in each event, what game the event happens in and when the event happens.
(First Monday in September Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf)- In Animal Crossing, the player can talk to Tortimer near the Wishing Well to receive a Shop Model. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the player will instead receive the Picnic Basket from the mayor outside the Town Hall.
- La-Di-Day (Second Saturday in September and November Animal Crossing: Wild World)- On this day, the player can hear villagers' suggestions for a new town tune. After the tune is sung to the player, they can decide whether or not they want it saved as the town's new melody.
- Sports fair (From the 23rd of September to the 24th of September Animal Crossing)- Players and villagers compete against each other in for different events - Aerobics, Foot Race, Ball Toss and Tug-o-War.
- Yay Day (Fourth Sunday in September and November Animal Crossing: Wild World)- Villagers swap compliments with the player, and may refer to them infrequently after the event.
- Explorer's Day (The 12th of October Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf)- The mayor will be near the Wishing Well to reward the player a Bottled Ship in Animal Crossing. In Animal Crossing: City Folk the player will instead receive the Sailboat Model from Tortimer outside the Town Hall.
- Acorn Festival (Second week in October Animal Crossing: Wild World)- Cornimer will be outside Town Hall, exchanging Mushroom furniture for acorns.
- Halloween (The 31st of October Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf)- Jack will appear between 6:00 PM and 1:00 AM. During this time, players can play trick or treat or earn Spooky Furniture by offering candy to Jack.
- Harvest Festival (Fourth Thursday of November Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf)- Franklin the Turkey will be hiding somewhere in town. Tortimer sets up some tables and food outside the Wishing Well (Animal Crossing) or Town Hall (Animal Crossing: City Folk) to celebrate.
- Fishing Tourney (Third Saturday of September, October and November, City Folk and New Leaf)- Chip, the fishing expert, will set up a stall outside Town Hall, challenging the player to catch a certain type of fish or the best type of fish. The winner will receive a trophy.
- Flea Market (First Saturday of September, October, November, Wild World, Fourth Sunday of September, October and November, City Folk)- Players and villagers have the opportunity to sell items inside their homes.
- Mushroom Season (All of November, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf) Five Animal Crossing: New Leaf or six Animal Crossing: City Folk mushrooms will appear every day next to trees. One will be a piece from the Mushroom Series. The others can be sold to Tom Nook or Re-Tail, given to Wendell in Animal Crossing: City Folk, or eaten by the player.

Weather
The weather in autumn consists of a mixture of clear, sunny days and some patches of rain. Snow will begin to fall towards the end of November, but will not stick to the ground until early December, in winter. In New Leaf, thunderstorms will dissipate around September, giving way for regular rain.
In September, (specifically the 8th in New Leaf) trees will begin to turn from bright green to a dull, musky green. In October (the 17th in New Leaf), trees will then turn a bright orange/brown color. Grass follows the same color pattern as trees, by turning a dull green color in September, then a dull purple in October. In November, the grass becomes a very dull pinkish-gray, and then in December, the ground, weeds, and clover all turn gray. Dandelions will disappear until next summer. The trees will often gradually change color.
