The pond, also called a holding pond, is the smallest body of water in a Animal Crossing series town. It is the small patch of water that would probably fit inside a six-by-six sized room in the player's house. Prior to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are usually two ponds in every town, with some towns having more depending on the layout, and some towns having only one. The fish are small and not worth much, but they are exclusive to ponds. Only two bugs are found in ponds; the pondskater and diving beetle. No fish will appear in ponds during winter, but trash can still be caught in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, several fish that were previously river fish are now found in ponds instead, increasing the variety and price range of fish available from ponds.
